Faux Perfection

The series Faux Perfection consists of collage, prints, photographs and installations dealing with the role of fashion, make up, and the concept of beauty divulged by media and the effects they generate on women self image and self worth. Cutouts from fashion, news and popular magazines were used, as well as catalog and advertising photography, sometimes incorporating drawing, sometimes using sewing machine stitches as a drawing tool. Embellishment with findings, sequins, rhinestones and beads was also used on photos and collages.

Women With Women

This series is a celebration of sisterhood, that bond that unite women to her sisters in a communion without tensions or animosities, in harmony, acceptance and understading. It is ancient and it is new; it is something that is natural to women, and something that is being consciously nurtured and preserved.

In The Playground

"In the Playground" is a series of pencil drawings of children playing, sometimes alone, sometimes with friends, but always transported to another dimension of awareness, to their own fantastical reality. They could be pirates, or astronauts, sailors or great writers, firefighters or actors on a stage. It is based on a series of photographs of my own grandchildren and their playmates lost in their fascination, the wonder of their minds reflected on their actions and their faces.

Botanicals

When commissioned to paint 4 large canvases by clients in New York City I asked them for a theme, they responded in unision, "Green". This was the start of an exploration on light and shade on foliage, colors and textures, which became an expression of my preoccupation with conservation and the importance of nature in our daily life.

Art Watchers

In the visual arts, the intangible connection between the artist, the work, and the viewer is not constant; it is personal, fleeting, and solitary. Visitors to art fairs and museums, when they are caught in the act of being called, captivated by an artwork, that emotional, physical, and intellectual moment when art expression traps the viewer, embraces and creates a profound connection, that communion between Art and Viewer, that is the theme of this series.

Selfies Or Portraits Of The Artists As...

Self-portraits are a genre that most accomplished artists take on at some time in their careers. With some insight, conceit, or astounding humility, the portraiture of an artist’s physical being and personality is a challenge worthy of undertaking. These works are an exploration of the portrait and the selfie, the possibilities of expression, of imagined histories, of life revelations, and insights. Following emotions, life experiences, and life changes gave way to images and symbols that recreate my “self” and my identity, presenting an epiphany of alternate lives and alternate beliefs.
